Leon's Malas

"beautiful hand-crafted strings of beads
for prayer, meditation, healing, and enjoyment"
Malas are strings of beads commonly used in Hindu and Buddhist traditions, though similar beads are used in many other religions, including Islam and Christianity. Typically malas consist of 108 beads, though other significant numbers may be used.

Leon's Malas are hand-crafted from natural stone, resins, coral, seeds and woods, as well as more playful glass and synthetic materials, these beautiful malas are a pleasure to wear, to hold, and to use for any purpose.

Leon Reed's pieces have been exhibited at the Seattle Art Museum.
This exquisite mala is made of black coral with natural amber (12 sets of 9 beads =108), finished with an antique faceted jet bead flanked by amber and tied with a gold-colored Persian tassel.

2 NEW Planet-Sign Malas (Vedic, 9X12=108). Created Feb. 22, 2015
LUNAR MALA - 108 beads (4X27) plus guru bead - $60
This recent piece - Feb. 20, 2015 - really captures the colors of early spring in Seattle. One moment somber with subtle greys and earth-tones, but then the light hits it, and a rainbow of colors shines forth. Leon describes it as a lunar mala of 108 beads, repeating "gypsy-style" the four quarters of the day, 27 times (for the lunar houses, or nakshatras of vedic astrology. Each bead represents six hours of the lunar month, so you can always find where you are on the mala (or rather, when you are).
All natural materials, beads - avg. 8mm - include quartz, agate, moonstone and amber (etc.), with a grey tassel.

each mala is unique - order now if you want the piece pictured here - just give us a call!

Leon has made quite a few rainbow malas over the years. What's amazing about them is just how different each one is from the others. The stones in this piece are especially nice.
